Abstract
In this thesis-like lecture I want to propose a historically grounded interpretation for the remarkable fact that in Germany the State and sporting organisations collaborated in an astonishingly close fashion to exclude social and ethnic groups whose members were German citizens or citizens of the state of Prussia and often possessed all the citizens rights normally granted by a state to its members. My main thesis is that the “defensive recognition-refusal“ (KLAUS J. BADE), adopted by the state and also by sporting organisations right up to recent times is a refusal to recognize the fact that Germany has been a migration country for over 100 years.
